Kitchen Object Contour Line and Composition

For the contour line excercises, I learned some patience, and learned that I needed to draw from sight and not from memory, but I still need to improve drawing precisely what I see. The only concept I do not understand is how to keep the same line going until the end. When I chose what items I would use, I chose different, and difficult (for me) shapes.

  1. Hannah- I appreciate your efforts on this assignment, as well as your concentration that is evidenced in your drawing! I know that you might be a little impatient in this process but don't be (easier said than done, right?) because your drawings will continue to improve with practice. This is just the beginning!
One thing that I would suggest is that you begin at this point to tie in the elements of composition a bit more to your drawing (which you did in the fruit still life) and I see that you did think about it in this drawing as well. My one suggestion would be to focus on how the objects are arranged so that you not only have a focal point and balance but that you also break up the negative spaces into interesting shapes. This will increase your visual movement through the drawing and get rid of the negative space borders (which you could accomplish by allowing objects to also touch or extend off the top or bottom of your drawing). Overall, however, I am pleased with your progress and diligent work to do your best!
